Jude rushed over to examine their exit, feeling along the vent’s edges. Cale met the girl’s stare as another wave of tremors shook the complex. His voice outmatched by the explosion’s rumbling, Cale simply mouthed the words to her—thank you. She nodded. Jude leaned back and kicked at the duct cover. On the second try it popped off and dropped four feet to the grass below. Jude jumped down and reached up to help them out.
